Power Washing  FAQs

What do I need to know before pressure washing? Thoroughly sweep and brush off the surface before you start. If your driveway has been stained by motor oil or any other fluid, pretreat those areas by using the stiff brush to scrub the stains with concrete cleaning solution. When you're ready to pressure wash the surface, be sure to use the right nozzle.

How long does it take a house to dry after power washing? After pressure washing your house, you have to wait for it to fully dry before you can paint it. This waiting time can be anywhere from 24 hours to 3 days. Pressure washing isn't for beginners. If you're not experienced, the high water pressure can easily damage portions of your house's exterior.

What Cannot be power washed? These are also things you shouldn't power-wash. These tools are on the exterior of your home and can withstand rain and snowstorms. However, the power of a pressure washer can force water into parts of your panels and meter that rainstorms cannot reach.

How many PSI do you need to pressure wash anything? Vinyl siding can withstand a powerful gas pressure washer (2,500-3,000 psi). Aluminum, stucco or soft-grain wood homes will do better with a less powerful washer (about 1,200-1,500 psi). Determine whether you will rent or buy your machine.

How long does it take to power wash a 2000 square foot home? If you have an average 2,000 sq ft house, you can expect pressure washing it to take between two and four hours. A smaller home will go quicker, and a larger one will take longer.

What do you put on a deck after pressure washing? Sealing a deck after pressure washing is crucial to keeping it looking great and preventing damage from the elements. But the timing is key. Applying sealant too soon can trap moisture and cause the wood to warp or rot while waiting too long can leave the wood vulnerable to sun damage and water infiltration.

Does power washing cause mold? Here's the kind of damage power washing can do if not performed correctly: Water can build up below a home's siding causing mold and mildew growth.

Should you pressure wash your windows? Yes, you can use a pressure washer to clean your windows. However, you must use the proper nozzle and adjust the pressure setting accordingly. A high-pressure stream of water can easily damage windowpanes, so be sure to start with low pressure and increase the force slowly.
