Carpentry FAQs

Should I hire a carpentry contractor for my remodeling or addition project? A: DIY stores and home improvement centers may carry many of the tools and materials needed for a home remodeling or addition project, and you take on these projects yourself, but many people find that it saves time, money and frustration to hire an experience remodeling carpnetry contractor instead.

I have three estimates and they vary greatly in price. Why? A: It’s not uncommon for prices to vary from contractor to contractor. But if the gap between the highest price and the lowest price seems too substantial to be correct, or if one bid is much higher or lower than the others, talk to the contractors again. It may be that one contractor didn’t understand the scope or details of the project. Ask the contractors to fully explain their bids, and if they’re vague about their answers, move on to the next contractor. Beware of bids that seem artificially low, as some contractors purposely underbid jobs and then tack on expensive change orders during the construction.

Professional Carpenter Qualifications. * Knowledge: In addition to the knowledge required of the carpenter, the carpenter must possess a working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques. * Abilities: In addition to the abilities required of the carpenter, the professional Carpenter must be able to lead, instruct and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers; accurately estimate costs, supplies and materials needed for jobs; prepare lists of materials; ensure work is performed in sequence; maintain records; and prepare more complex reports. * Experience: In addition to the experience required of the Carpenter, the abilities of a professional carpenter normally would be acquired through one to two years of experience as a journey-level carpenter that included work coordination responsibilities.

Which tools are the most common used by a carpenter? * Hand saw. Every carpentry workshop should have several hand saws that are suitable for the job. * Spirit level. Spirit levels are critical when it comes to constructing the right levelled surface or product. * Tape measure * Claw hammer * Chisel. * Utility knife. * Nail gun * Quick clamps

What issues can be solved with a kitchen remodel? * Not enough counter space * Countertops are cracked, chipped, stained, faded, or otherwise unsightly * Appliances are outdated, broken, or not energy-efficient * Cabinets are dingy, faded, chipped, or broken * Floors are uneven or need to be replaced * Oven, stove, and appliances are in inconvenient locations * There’s not enough space * Transforming a closed kitchen into an open floor plan

Will remodeling add value to my home? Most likely, yes. Although we can’t make any guarantees, studies show that remodeling and modernization often boost property value. New features such as improved property details, updated rooms, and cabinet refurnishing are bound to entice potential buyers.

Can I live in my home while it's being remodeled? Depending on the remodeling work, it may or may not be possible to live in your home throughout the process. Our team will be sure to let you know from the get-go so that you can plan for accommodations if need be. We promise that we’ll provide you with a solution that has your best interest at heart.

How can I protect the other areas of my home? To protect the other areas of your home from drywall dust, you can seal off entryways to your living spaces. Be sure to seal up air ducts and shut down heating and cooling systems to prevent construction dust from circulating throughout your house.
